What is the Purpose of Crack Sealing?
The purpose is to stop water entering the crack and weakening the base. Appearance is secondary.
Cold-Applied Crack Sealants
Aimed at driveways, paths, and lighter lots. Pourable grade to about a half inch, trowel grade as cracks approach an inch. Stay above 50°F for a day, and let the filler dry before traffic.
Hot-Applied Crack Sealants
Chosen around the kettle you have: direct-fire or oil-jacketed. Most of these grades are described for cracks up to about three-quarters of an inch. Clean, dry cracks are still required, and the temperature minimum is on the page.
